BREAKING NEWS 2 NOV 20 AM: EVENT CANCELLED

I’m sorry to inform you that the Harken Rutland RS400, RS200 and RS600 Open next weekend has been cancelled.  Please see below the thoughtful email I have received from John Fothergill who would have been your race officer:

“I write with bad news about the Harken Rutland RS400, RS200 and RS600 Open next weekend.  As you know, the prime minister has declared that a national lockdown will come into operation this Thursday, 5th November. This includes the instructions that:

- you must stay at home
- you should avoid travel unless essential

I realise that you are allowed to leave home for exercise, but I don't think that would include a day-long regatta in which many competitors would have to travel long distances.  I have discussed this with Pete Ashworth (the Commodore) and flag officers and we are recommending to Council on Monday that all external activities are cancelled until the end of the lockdown.  We will be in touch with Anglian Water, our lease holders on Monday, and it would not be surprising if they decided to close the water and the club, as they did during the last lockdown.

It is therefore with regret that we have decided to cancel the Harken Rutland RS400, RS200 and RS600 Open next weekend.  I suppose this will not come as a surprise for most people, but, nevertheless, it is disappointing.  I hope that you will be able to pass this information onto those who have registered.

I hope that the pandemic gets under control and that we will be able to run an RS Sprint event next year and enjoy some good sailing then.

Best regards

John”

Thank you for your payment of the entry fee for the event.   You now have two options:

  1. Ask for a full refund by emailing Joanne on membership@rs-association.com
  2. Do nothing and your entry fee will be carried forward and set against your next payment to the RS Class Association.

The cancellation is such as shame because this was to be Rutland Sailing Club’s first open event of the year and they were so looking forward to hosting you RS Sailors.  We’ll just have to be patient for a bit longer.

Keep safe and well!

Best wishes

Clare

RS200, RS400 and RS600 fleets

Currently working with Rutland SC to offer you two one day open meetings with up to four fleet races.  Plan for 20 x RS400 on Sat 7 Nov and 10 x RS600 and 15 x RS200 on Sun 8 Nov.  More info to follow.

RS100, RS300, RS500, RS800, RS Vareo, RS Aero, RS Feva and 2000 fleets

Unfortunately this event has had to be cancelled in its regatta format because Rutland SC can only host 40 sailors per day.  Please save the date for next year’s RS End of Seasons Regatta 6-7 Nov 2021.  Two days of fleet racing plus a laying-up style supper on Saturday evening.

It was felt appropriate to open the opportunity to race up to the RS200, RS400 and RS600 fleets none of whom have had a proper two day sailing event this calendar year.  Your fleet has been very fortunate this year being able to get together to sail.

Refund policy:
If you cancel your entry before the early entry deadline we will refund all fees, minus a £10 admin fee. If you cancel after the early entry deadline, but before online entry closes our standard policy is to return 50% of fees. Where an event entry limit has been reached a refund will only be issued if another boat from the waiting list takes your place. If you cancel after entry closes we will not usually issue a refund.
Please note that where entry is paid directly to the club and for club hosted events a different policy may apply - please contact the club for details.
