West Riding SC - Prize Draw. Win a new RS200!
WEST RIDING SC PRIZE DRAW
As many sailors know, West Riding SC lost its clubhouse in an arson
attack in July 2005. AS well as being the oldest sailing club in West
Yorkshire, founded in 1937, WRSC is one of the largest in the county with
300 members. Over the years the club has welcomed hundreds of visitors to
its events.
The clubhouse had stood since 1938, but due to its age and timber
construction it had not been possible to fully insure it for replacement
in modern materials built to current regulations. The club was faced with
a shortfall of £80,000. There was no time to put in an application for
funding; it would take two years. Without a clubhouse the club would die –
quickly.
A Fire Fund was set up and numerous fundraising schemes have been
hatched. To date the deficit has been reduced by £37,000. But now we
come to the main event!
The club was surprised and touched by the sympathy and offers of help
that came flooding in from sailors from other clubs in the aftermath of
the fire. This triggered the idea of a Prize Draw, aimed at attracting
sailing clubs throughout the country into helping to sell tickets.
• The first prize is a brand new RS200, and there will be masses of
other sailing based prizes, from organisations including Crewsaver, Henri
Lloyd, Laser Centre, Musto, Regatta, Rooster Sailing, RYA, and Yachts &
Yachting.
• The Prize Draw is to be launched at the Dinghy Sailing Show at
Alexandra Palace on the weekend March 4-5th.
• The Draw itself will take place during West Riding SC’s Spring
Bank Regatta 27-29th May 2006, to coincide with the official opening of
the new clubhouse, and with the star prize on display. It should be
three days to remember – and the sailing will be good as well!
West Riding Sailing Club will be delighted and very grateful for any
support you can give.
