RS opportunity for under nineteens

There are now a huge number of RS regattas all over Britain, and with several of the boats being perfect for young sailors an increasing number are keen to sample the action. Competitors at RS regattas have to be RS Class Association members, as is the norm, so this makes it expensive to borrow a boat for a weekend, or even compete in your own RS if you don’t normally race and are not already a member. The RS Association has decided to allow any helm under the age of 19 to enter one event per year without joining up - excluding National Championships. So, if you’re a young sailor and the RS Circuit is coming to town, you are welcome race in your own boat or a borrowed one. You’ll find the regular sailors are a very friendly bunch, with plenty of advice about boat set-up and handling there for the asking, as well as the opportunity to line up with some of the country’s best sailors . An RS event will not only be loads of fun, you can learn a lot at the same time. Of course, RS fully understands that all young sailors will prefer to do their maths homework and be tucked up in bed with a mug of Horlicks by 8.30pm, rather than come along and hit the Saturday night RS party to the max with everyone else… but if you want to make an exception on one occasion…!
