Yes he is nuts - Jubby to take part in all nine classes Nationals at the RS Games, 3O races in 12 days
The RS Games is a unique event with nine RS Classes holding their National Championships, in the case of the RS5OO’s their Worlds, in the space of 12 days at WPNSA starting on Aug 15th. For many this did present a real opportunity, which other RS classes Nationals could I do as well as the RS class I regularly race but at the same time a real dilemma, which one? Which one does not overlap? Which will be the most fun?
Well one person has come up with a unique answer to this awkward dilemma, do all nine Nationals!! Yes Ian Jubb {Jubby} is not only sponsoring parts of the RS Games through his businesses Sailboatdeliveries and 2ndhanddinghies.com but he is going to compete in a least one day of each classes Nationals. Anyone who remotely knows Jubby will vouch he will pull this off with style and a fair degree of noise. The minor logistic matter of how to get all the boats there is a minor detail; he of course owns a six berth road trailer and vans that can tow it plus having the extra boats inside and on the roof of the van.
Boats – well 2ndhanddinghies.com have a good standard of second hand RS boats for sale so just use those and barter the odd class not in stock.
Crews for 2 person boats – well if Jubby is to be believed he had to fend off willing applicants {as if!} and after extensive trials in the bar he has selected Gael Pawson , Bonnie Moody and Lucy Fluff Millar specially flying in from Ireland, poor girl.
What could stop him – well besides his liver packing in the most likely problem for Jubby will be remembering which boat to rig on which day so don’t be surprised to see him on the RS3OO course in an RS4OO.
Of course there is no truth in the rumour that Jubby is doing this to win his own prize, Sailboatdeliveries is sponsoring the Champion of Champion trophy for a competitors combined results from 2 or more RS Nationals during the RS Games.
How many boats will Jubby beat overall? Which class is going to get the Jubby drinking seal of approval for being the most fun in the bar? Watch out for regular updates on Jubby’s progress during the RS Games. Raise the bar indeed.
