RS200s at Fishers Green
A changeable July day welcomed the fleet to the event, which forms part
of the SEAS series. Fourteen boats competed over four races in winds
varying from zero to F3 late in the afternoon.
The fleet sailed all races in the deeper, Northern end of the lake, due
to a large dose of weed in the Southern end. The PRO set largely
windward leeward courses, in the shifting breeze.
Race one started in a very light breeze, and it wasn’t long before the
local boats of Paul/Julie Rayson and Steve Conroy/Pippa Knight hit the
front. The Raysons took the race, with Steve and Pippa second and James
Mead/Andrea Ovenden third.
Race two followed quickly and in a similar vein, but with the first two
positions reversed, with James/Andrea third again.
After lunch the wind increased, but the racing quickly reverted to form.
The Raysons took race three, with James/Andrea second and Steve/Pippa
third. The consistent John Charles (and family) another fourth place.
This meant the meeting went down to the wire. A win for either the
Raysons or Steve/Pippa in race four would give them the event. Lynne
Ratcliffe/Tania Macdonald led the race, but they were overhauled by
Steve/Pippa, who went on to win the race and the event from the Raysons.
