13 200s competed at Largo Bay for the Scottish Championships on
26/27 June. The fleet turned up expecting sun, sand and East Coast
sea breezes. It rained all day and a 20 knot breeze provided autumnal
temperatures.
The weekend was dominated by Ronnie Millar and Robbie Burns
from Dalgety Bay, who led the fleet from the first mark in all races,
securing six wins.
Race 1 saw Millar followed by Katie Masterson, and Richard Evans.
Millar twice gave up the lead - on the first downwind leg, then on a
capsize on the 3rd downwind leg, but came back to win from
Masterson.
Race 2 saw Millar followed by Gillian Hooton for two laps, but she
surrendered her 2nd on a capsize, allowing Masterson to secure it.
Race 3 again saw Millar lead from Hooton, and that order remained
to the end.
Sunday arrived with some sun, we still had the famous Largo golden
sand, but no sea breeze. An 8 to 10 knot south-westerly prevailed for
the 3 races sailed.
Richard and Val Evans from Chanonry put in a strong performance
to challenge Millar, and ended up with a 3,2,2 from Sunday?s racing.
However having only completed one race on Saturday they were
only unable to finish 5th overall.
Hooton produced a steady 5,3,7 on Sunday to secure 2nd overall from
Masterson by one point, who struggled in the lighter breeze and
finished with an 8,10,3. Bess Homer from Dalgety Bay sailed
consistently all weekend, always just outside the top places, and was
only 1 point behind Masterson in 4th overall.
