Winds were light and easterly for Saturday and honking from the West for
Sunday to give a good range of conditions. Great enthusiasm saw two
boats over the start line in the first race with newcomers to the fleet
Jo Dixon and Vicki Simpson returning over the line. Gillian Hooton and
Jennifer Reekie took the lead with Bess Homer and Kirsty Higgins in
second with Richard & Val Evans just behind. There was no hoot for
Hooton/ Reekie as they crossed the line being OCS giving Homer/ Higgins
first, the Evans second and Graeme Henry and Shona Redpath third.
The second race was light with the “canny” Evans showing the way with
Homer/ Higgins in second and Henry/ Redpath in third. The third race was
again light with the tide changing making for interesting tactics
throughout the race. Hooton/ Reekie won with the Evans second. Henry/
Redpath gained the tactical advantage on the run over Homer/Higgins and
got them on the line.gaining third place.
A great curry was had by all courtesy of Chanonry sailing club followed
by dolphin watching by the lighthouse. The wind was up and honking from
the west with difficult breezy conditions for Sunday. Hooton/ Reekie
lead the race from start to finish with Homer/Higgins in second and Katie
Masterton and gutsy Ailsa Redpath in third.
The wind increased in the final race up to 30 knots for the final lap
to “cling on conditions”. Homer/ Higgins miscalculated the tide at the
windward to get stuck and round in fifth position. Team Evans were first
to swim at the gybe followed by Hooton/Reekie on the following gybe and
Masterton/Redpath. Henry/ Redpath and Homer/Higgins were battling it up
the last beat when Henry/ Redpath got knocked over going upwind. Homer/
Higgins finished in first with Henry/ Redpath second, Masterton/ Redpath
third and the final finisher Hooton/Reekie.
