Two very different days gave varied conditions and varied results for the competitive fleet. Saturday saw a patchy wind from the North West for guest star Race Officer Russ Gibbs to struggle with but still setting good courses. Race 1 saw a very patchy wind around 10 knots, its fickle nature was clearly shown on the first lap. Ian Pickard/Noelle Vidal took full advantage of a late port shift to lead but then sat becalmed on the first run as the majority of the fleet gybed early and sailed over the top of them. Lee Sydenham/Anne Vaudrey took full advantage to win by a good margin with Tom and Jo Hewitson pulling through well to second. Race 2 saw the breeze build and the Hewitsons went clear from Sydenham and David Giles/Fiona Clark. Race 3 and the breeze had really built to 16-18 knots and settled. Giles appeared to have the race under control leading for two laps but Sydenham eroded the lead and in gybe duel in the last half of the run and gained the overlap right at the end to win. Saturday night and it was off to join the 4's and 6's at Brixham YC who proved again great hosts, although a bizarre Elvis tribute, Lesley Presley, proved conclusively that Elvis was not alive in south Devon. Sunday and the weather forecasters had got unfortunately got it spot on. Torbay looked wonderful under clear blue skies and lovely sunshine but there was not a lot of breeze.PRO Roger Gator did a good job though in getting three races in with a 4-7 knot breeze from the south east. The Hewitsons ran away with the first race with Trudie Danbury/Graham Ryder second and Giles third. The Hewitsons were in the lead again at the first mark in race 5 to win from Hamish Calder/Caroline Eyre second in their first event of the year and Pete Vincent/Eluned Jones third. The Hewitsons emphatic performance had given them overall victory with a race to spare leaving James Stewart/Roger Gilbert to stop hitting people at marks long enough to win the final race.
